Multi-decadal Atmospheric Modeling for Europe Yields Multi-purpose Data

چکیده
Regional atmospheric models have matured in the past few years. They now find broad applications that range from process studies, reconstruction of recent and paleoclimates, simulation of pathways and deposition of anthropogenic matter, construction of plausible scenarios of future climate change, and regional weather analysis. The initial major problem-namely, the illposed boundary value problem--has been efficiently fixed by including a sponge zone that ensures the consistency of the interior flow with the boundary conditions at the outflow boundaries, or by introducing large-scale control in the interior. With these setups, regional models may now be integrated stably over many decades and thereby provide information on spatial and temporal scales not sufficiently resolved by present-day global climate models and weather analyses.

The nonlinear variation of drought and its relation to atmospheric circulation in Shandong Province, East China
Considerable attention has recently been devoted to the linear trend of drought at the decadal to inter-decadal time scale; however, the nonlinear variation of drought at multi-decadal scales and its relation to atmospheric circulation need to be further studied. The linear and nonlinear variations of the Palmer drought severity index (PDSI) in Shandong from 1900 to 2012 and its relations to th...

The response of atmospheric CO2 and climate to the reconstructed variability in solar irradiance and radiative forcing by volcanoes over the last millennium is examined by applying a coupled physical-biogeochemical climate model that includes the Lund-Potsdam-Jena dynamic global vegetation model (LPJ-DGVM) and a simplified analogue of a coupled atmosphere-ocean general circulation model. The mo...

Modern studies in the field of environment science and engineering show that deterministic models struggle to capture the relationship between the concentration of atmospheric pollutants and their emission sources. The recent advances in statistical modeling based on machine learning approaches have emerged as solution to tackle these issues. It is a fact that, input variable type largely affec...
متن کاملTropical Pacific/Atlantic Ocean Interactions at Multi-Decadal Time Scales
Analysis of sea surface temperature (SST) observations suggests a pan-oceanic interaction between the tropical Pacific and the Atlantic Ocean at multi-decadal time scales, such that periods of anomalously high SSTs in the eastern tropical Pacific are followed by a basinwide SST dipole in the Atlantic Ocean with a time delay of a few decades. The SST anomaly structure in the Atlantic Ocean is re...
متن کاملSatellite measurement based estimates of decadal changes in European nitrogen oxides emissions
Long-term satellite measurements of nitrogen dioxide in the troposphere are used in combination with a continental scale air quality model in order to verify and improve available estimates of multi-annual changes of emissions of nitrogen oxides (NOx) in Europe and the Mediterranean area between 1996 and 2005. As a result, a measurement-based data set of NOx emissions on a 1 by 1 grid and avera...
